About Moonstone Quill

Meet the Band

Dan Shukis (guitar, harmonica, vocals)

Dan Shukis is a co-founding member of the band. Originally from the Chicago suburbs, Dan grew up playing piano at a young age and did not pick up a guitar until he was 24 years old. After studying English Lit at University of Colorado Boulder, Dan took lessons at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago and immediately began writing original songs. Dan’s personal taste in music stretches from indie alternative, 80’s new wave, house music, and classic rock, while his style in Moonstone Quill pulls from traditional folk, bluegrass, and country genres.

Nate Spencer (mandolin, vocals)

Nate Spencer is a co-founding member of the band, originally from Greenwood, Indiana. He has always been a guitarist primarily, starting at the age of 10. Nate spent the extra time during the pandemic learning to play and sing over 120 songs in his house in the mountains. He picked up the mandolin in late 2020 and Moonstone Quill became an idea that night. 5 days later, they played their first show at Rocky Mountain Underground in Breckenridge, Colorado. Nate now spends his time writing songs, playing shows, and working to make Moonstone Quill the best band around the Rockies.
